Austin is one of the fastest growing cities in America. With a population of 1.3 million, it’s also one of the youngest. And while the city may not have much history when it comes to being openly gay, it’s quickly becoming a destination spot for young professionals looking to live in a big city without sacrificing small town charm.
With a thriving music scene, tons of great restaurants, and a vibrant nightlife, Austin offers something for every type of traveler. But despite the city’s reputation for being a place where anything goes, the gay community isn’t quite ready to come out just yet.
While the city is home to several gay bars and clubs, including the legendary Gilt Club, the majority of gay culture in Austin is still underground. There aren’t many places where gay couples can mingle freely, and even fewer places that cater specifically to gay men.
That said, there are a few spots where gay men can safely hang out and socialize. For example, the South Congress area has a number of bars and clubs catering to the gay crowd.
