The researchers identified 2,839 cases involving women truck drivers involved in fatal crashes from January 2005 to December 2013. Of these, 1,957 occurred in single-vehicle incidents and 982 occurred in multiple-vehicle crashes.
They also reviewed crash reports to determine whether the driver had violated federal safety regulations. Drivers were considered to have violated federal safety regulations if they failed to comply with one or more of the following requirements:
• Properly securing cargo
• Using seat belts
• Wearing helmets
• Following speed limits
