You don’t actually talk like an adult. You just pretend to be one.
This is the age old problem with online dating. People want to seem cool and mature, but they don’t really act like adults. They act like children.
It’s not hard to tell the difference between real adults and immature kids. Real adults are kind, thoughtful, considerate, and respectful. Kids are rude, selfish, inconsiderate, and disrespectful.
When you’re talking to someone online, you should treat them like a real human being. Don’t text them back immediately. Give them time to reply. Make eye contact. Smile at them.
If you’re texting someone you met online, you should also ask questions about themselves. Ask them about their interests, hobbies, career, family, etc. Do not ask them personal questions. That’s creepy.
Some people might be offended by that, but honestly, you shouldn’t care. If you’re interested in someone, you should give them space to share information about themselves.
Don’t expect anything in return. Just because you asked them something doesn’t mean they owe you anything. And if they ask you something, don’t take offense. It’s not personal.
And finally, don’t assume that every single person you meet online is a creep. There are decent people everywhere.
