Lincoln is one of the most diverse communities in America. With a population of just over 300,000, Lincoln offers a wide variety of entertainment, dining, shopping, cultural events and sports. There are also several gay bars and clubs throughout the city.

Gay marriage ban overturned by Supreme Court
Lincoln was the last state to legalize same sex marriages. The city council voted 4-3 against allowing gay couples to marry. But after the Supreme Court ruled that states must recognize gay marriages performed in other states, the mayor signed off on a bill legalizing gay marriage.
This is a great story because it shows how local politics can affect national policy. And it’s another reason why we need to vote!
City Council votes to repeal anti-discrimination ordinance
Lincoln, NE was recently voted the most LGBT-friendly city in America. The City Council repealed its anti-discrimination ordinance after a public vote. This means that discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity is now illegal in Lincoln.
This is great news for the residents of Lincoln, who were previously discriminated against because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. However, this decision may be bad news for businesses in Lincoln.
Businesses that discriminate against LGBT individuals often claim that they’re not subject to federal law. But that’s simply untrue. Federal law protects employees from being fired due to their sexual orientation or gender identification.
If you own a business in Lincoln, you should consider protecting yourself from lawsuits by ensuring that your company is compliant with federal law.
Statewide ban on same sex marriage upheld
Lincoln, NE was once known as the “Gay Capital of America.” However, after the Supreme Court decision last week, the city lost its title. The ruling means that same sex couples cannot marry in the state of Nebraska.
This is not the first time the Supreme Court has ruled against gay rights. In 1996, the court struck down laws prohibiting sodomy between consenting adults. And in 2003, the court overturned California’s Proposition 22, which banned same sex marriages.
But this latest ruling is different because it affects everyone in the state. This ruling does not just affect gay couples; it affects straight couples too.
And it’s not only gay couples who are affected. Straight couples who wish to marry must now travel across state lines to be married.
Many states already allow gay couples to marry. But some states still prohibit them. So this ruling may cause many straight couples to move out of these states.
Some states have already begun to consider legislation that would legalize same sex marriage. Lincoln has been fighting to protect its LGBTQ community since the 1970s, when it was one of only two cities nationwide with a statewide ban on same-sex marriage. The state legislature passed a constitutional amendment to overturn the ban in 2015, and the city council repealed its own anti-discrimination ordinance just last month.
