It depends on the individual. Some people may never recover while others may be able to move on much sooner. There are several different factors that play a role in the recovery process including:
1) What kind of relationship were you in? Was it a happy one? Did you stay together because you loved each other? Or did you stay together because you both wanted kids and/or didn’t want to live alone?
2) Were you married? If yes, how long did you last?
3) When did you break up? Was it sudden or gradual?

4) How long ago was it?
5) Do you still care about him/her?
6) Are you still friends?
7) Have you ever talked to them since?
8) Do you regret breaking up?
9) Do you wish you could change anything about the breakup?
10) Do you blame yourself for the breakup?
The first 3 months
If you’re looking to break free from a toxic relationship, here’s what you need to know during the first three months. The first month is critical because it sets the tone for the entire relationship.
During this month, you should be very careful not to give any indication that you’re interested in getting back together with him/her. This means no flirting, no touching, no talking about past relationships, and definitely no asking questions about his/her exes.
This is important because if he/she senses that you’re still thinking about them, he/she may feel rejected and resentful. So, avoid giving any signals at all until after the first month is over.
After the first month, things become a bit easier. Now you can flirt a little, touch each other, talk about past relationships, and ask questions about his/her life. But again, keep these conversations light and casual. Don’t let them turn into deep discussions about feelings or problems.
Don’t worry too much about whether you’re being honest. People who cheat often lie to themselves about their motives. They convince themselves that they were just lonely and wanted some company. And when they find out that their partner was cheating on them, they blame themselves.
But the truth is that most cheaters aren’t actually lonely. They’re simply bored and looking for excitement. So, if you suspect that your boyfriend or girlfriend is cheating on you, try to figure out why. Is there something wrong with him/her? Or maybe she/he is having trouble finding work?
Whatever the reason, if you suspect that he/she is cheating, it’s better to end the relationship than risk losing everything.
6 Months
If you’re still in a relationship after 6 months, you should be thinking about breaking up.
That doesn’t mean you should break up right away. But you should definitely talk things out and come to some sort of agreement.
This is especially true if you’ve been together for a long time. Your partner may not realize just how important this conversation is until it’s too late.
And remember, there’s no reason to rush into a breakup. Take your time and give yourself plenty of space to think things through.
1 Year
One year is a very short amount of time when compared to a seven year relationship. However, it’s still enough time to completely change your life.
If you’re single and looking to find love, then this is the perfect opportunity to try out online dating sites. The problem is most people who use these sites end up wasting hours every day browsing through profiles and messages.
That’s because there’s no guarantee that any given person will be interested in meeting you. So instead of wasting time trying to meet everyone, just pick a couple of people at random and send them a quick message. Then wait to hear back from them.
When you receive a response, ask questions about their interests and hobbies, and tell them about yourself. This gives you a better idea of whether they’d be a good match for each other.

After a month or two, you should have a sense of whether you want to continue pursuing this person. If not, move on to another profile. Otherwise, you may have found your soul mate!
