There is no specific law that prevents married couples from having multiple spouses. But according to Section 13(3) of the Nigerian Constitution, marriage shall not be entered into except by a union of one man and one woman.
This section also states that polygamous marriages are illegal. There is no provision for divorce in Nigeria. A spouse may file for divorce only if he/she believes his/her rights were violated.
Section 14 of the constitution provides that children born of a valid marriage are legitimate. In a polygamous relationship, however, the children of different partners are illegitimate.
So, if you want to marry several women at once, you should check whether your country permits polygamy.
If your country allows polygamy, you can marry as many women as you wish. If your country prohibits polygamy, you cannot marry more than one wife.

There are no official statistics on the number of polygamists living in these states, but according to estimates, there may be anywhere between 10,000 and 100,000.
This means that anyone who wants to live in any of those states can legally marry multiple women. But keep in mind that if you’re planning to move to another state, you must divorce each wife individually. This means that you have to file for divorce in every single state where you’ve been married.
