La Crosse is one of the best places to live in Wisconsin. There are many reasons why. We have great schools, a beautiful downtown area, and a thriving arts scene. But the biggest reason why we’re considered one of the best places in America to live is because we’re home to the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse.
This university is located right here in La Crosse, which makes us a great place to call home. And while we may not be the largest city in Wisconsin, we’re definitely close enough to big cities like Milwaukee, Madison, and Minneapolis.
With such a large population of students at UWL, it’s no surprise that the campus is full of fun events throughout the year. From concerts and festivals to sporting events and parties, there’s always something happening.
But beyond just being a college town, La Crosse is also a very accepting community. In fact, according to the Human Rights Campaign’s 2017 Municipal Equality Index, La Crosse had the highest score of any city in the state.
We’re proud to be named one of the top 10 most LGBT-friendly cities in the nation, and we want to keep it that way. That’s why we created the La Crosse Pride Festival.
Since 2014, the festival has brought together thousands of people from all walks of life. Whether you’re looking to learn about the history of the LGBT movement or simply enjoy music, food, and drinks, the festival is the perfect opportunity to connect with others.
And while the festival isn’t exclusively for the LGBT community, it certainly gives them a space to come together and celebrate their differences.
So whether you’re interested in learning more about the history of the LGBTQ rights movement or just want to enjoy a day of dancing, drinking, and celebrating, the La Crosse Pride Fest is the event for you.
The City’s Pride Festival
La Crosse is proud to be home to many wonderful organizations and events that support our LGBTQ community. The city hosts several pride festivals throughout the year including the annual La Crosse Pride Parade and Festival.
The parade kicks off at noon on Saturday, June 30th, 2017. The festival runs from 10am – 6pm on Sunday, July 1st. There will be live music, food vendors, children’s activities, and plenty of family-friendly entertainment.

We’ve got a thriving arts scene, beautiful parks, and plenty of places to eat. And we’re just minutes away from Milwaukee, Madison, Chicago, Minneapolis, and St. Paul.

La Crosse is known as a very welcoming city for the LGBTQ community. The City of La Crosse offers many resources for the local queer population including a Gay Pride Parade, support groups, and events.
There are several organizations dedicated to helping the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) community. One of these is the Human Rights Campaign, which provides information on issues affecting the LGBTQ community, including employment discrimination, hate crimes, and health care access.
Another organization is the Wisconsin Equality Project, which works to ensure equal rights for the LGBTQ community through advocacy and legislation. The group helps educate legislators and promotes equality throughout the state.
