Girls Around Me is a free iPhone app that helps women find friends who share similar interests. The app uses location services to show users nearby girls who are interested in things like sports, shopping, food, movies, music, books, fashion, etc.

Girls Around Me is available for free download in Apple’s App Store. Users must be 18 years old or older to install the app.
To create a profile, users simply enter their name, email address, gender, age, and zip code. They can also add photos, locations, and interests. Once created, profiles appear in a list of nearby users.
Users can search through the list of profiles by clicking on any user’s photo. After selecting a friend, users can send messages, chat, and exchange phone numbers.
Once a friendship begins, users can view each other’s profiles, photos, and interests. They can also send gifts and invitations to events.
If users decide to become Facebook friends, they can connect via Facebook Messenger. This feature allows users to quickly communicate with friends and family members who aren’t already connected to each other.
Girls Around Me was founded by two college students, Matt McPherson and Ryan O’Connor. The pair met during their freshman year at Stanford University. While studying computer science, they decided to develop a social networking site where young adults could meet others based on shared interests.
McPherson and O’Connor launched the project in January 2012. Within three months, the company had raised $1 million in funding from investors including Y Combinator, 500 Startups, and SV Angel.
Girls Around Me currently operates in over 100 cities across the United States. The company plans to expand internationally soon.
