There are many towns where they filmed the movie “Grumpy Old Men.” But there is only one town where they filmed the scene in which Harry Connick Jr.’s character says, “I’m not gonna be here forever!”
That town is called Ocala, Florida. The film crew shot the scene at the Ocala National Forest.
Ocala is located just south of Gainesville, Florida. It’s home to the University of Florida.
Ocala was founded in 1885 and incorporated in 1886. It’s named after Chief Ocalanah, who lived near the site of the city.
Today, Ocala is known as the “City of Parks.” There are over 100 parks within its borders.
The population of Ocala is approximately 70,000 residents. It’s the county seat of Marion County.
Ocala’s motto is “Where Sunshine Reigns Forever.” And it certainly does! Ocala receives nearly 300 days of sunshine each year.
Ocala has been ranked among the top 10 most beautiful cities in America by several publications.
And finally, Ocala is the hometown of actor John Goodman (who plays Grumpy), director Barry Sonnenfeld (who directed the movie) and writer Tom Cuddy (who wrote the screenplay).

Grumpy Old Men is set in the fictional town of Springfield, Ohio. But where exactly did the movie take place?
There are two towns in Ohio named Springfield: Springfield Township and Springfield City. Both are located in Clark County, just north of Cincinnati.
Springfield Township is home to the University of Dayton, which is actually based in neighboring Montgomery County. So there’s no way Grumpy Old Men took place in Springfield Township.
But Springfield City is close enough to be considered a possibility. It’s located in Hamilton County, just south of Cincinnati.
Hamilton County is home to the city of Covington, which is not far from Springfield City. And yes, Covington is the hometown of actor Tom Hanks.
That means Grumpy Old Men could very well have been shot in Covington, which would mean that the film crew chose the wrong location.

The Town Where Harry Potter Is Set In
If you’re not familiar with the movie series called Harry Potter, here’s a quick summary:
