To find this information, we need to use census data. The Australian Bureau of Statistics publishes annual population estimates for each State and Territory. We can use these figures to determine the percentage of LGBT adults living in each region.
We can then compare those percentages to determine which States and Territories have the largest number of LGBT residents.
Let’s take a closer look at some of the results.
First, let’s examine the overall percentage of LGBT adults in Australia. According to ABS statistics, 2% of Australians identify themselves as lesbian, gay, or bisexual. This means that 1 in 50 Australians identifies as LGBT.
Next, let’s look at the percentage of LGBT adults in each State and Territory. To calculate this figure, we simply divide the total number of LGBT adults in each region by the total number of adults in that region.
