Texas is one of the states where Asians are very much present. There are different types of Asian communities in Texas. Some of them are Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Filipino, Thai, etc. They live together happily. People call them as Texas Asians.
There are also different kinds of Asian Americans living in Texas. Some of the biggest groups include Chinese American, Japanese American, Korean American, Filipino American, Indian American, Southeast Asian American, Taiwanese American, Vietnamese American, Laotian American, Cambodian American, Burmese American, Pakistani American, Sri Lankan American, Bhutanese American, Nepalese American, Mongolian American, Tibetan American, Uighur American, Fijian American, Samoan American, Guamanian American, Hawaiian American, Micronesian American, Marshallese American, Palauan American, Tongan American, Chamorro American, Chuukese American, Yapese American, Kosraean American, Maori American, Navajo American, Inuit American, Aleutian American, Ainu American, and Alaska Native American.
They are not all the same; however, they share similar cultures and traditions. All of them speak English as a second language.
It is said that the first Asian immigrants came to America during the 19th century. These were mainly Chinese laborers. After that, immigration laws changed and allowed more Asian immigrants to come to America.
Today, Asians are still coming to America because of the jobs available. Many Asian countries are growing rapidly. As a result, the population of Asians is increasing day by day. That is why there are many Asians living in Texas.
A Brief History of Asian Immigration to America
Asian immigration to America began in 1848 when Chinese immigrants were brought to California. The next wave of Asian immigrants came in the 1880s, when Japanese workers were recruited to build railroads across the country. Then, in the early 1900s, Filipinos were brought to work on American farms.
By 1910, over 1 million Asians lived in America. Today, there are approximately 4.5 million Asians living in the United States. This number continues to grow each year.
Who Are the Chinese Americans?
Chinese Americans are American citizens who were born in China. They immigrated to America after 1949 when Mao Zedong took over China.
They came to America because they wanted freedom and opportunity. Many of them worked hard to build businesses and become successful entrepreneurs. Today, many Chinese Americans live in Texas.
There are currently 1.4 million Chinese Americans living in Texas. The largest concentration of Chinese Americans lives in Houston, where there are nearly 100,000 Chinese Americans.
Houston is home to the world headquarters of H-E-B grocery stores, which was founded by two Chinese immigrants. The company employs more than 50,000 workers and generates $7 billion in annual revenue.
Another large employer of Chinese Americans is Walgreens, which employs more than 30,000 Chinese Americans. The drugstore chain is headquartered in Deerfield, Illinois.
Other major employers include Chevron Corporation, which employs more than 10,000 Chinese Americans; Southwest Airlines, which employs more than 2,500 Chinese Americans; and Wells Fargo Bank, which employs more than 4,000 Chinese Americans.
Where Do They Live?
If you’re wondering where all these Asian immigrants are coming from, the answer is simple: California. The state of California is home to over half of America’s Asian population, and most of them live in Los Angeles County.
California’s diverse culture attracts many immigrants from Asia, including China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Cambodia, Laos, Burma, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau, Mongolia, Tibet, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Russia, Moldova, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, etc.
But not only does California attract immigrants from Asia, it also sends them back home. Many Californians return to visit family members who still live in Asia. This creates a huge influx of tourists visiting relatives in Asia.
This explains why there are so many Asians living in California. And this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the diversity of California’s immigrant community.
There are also large numbers of Latinos (Mexicans) and African Americans living in California. But since they aren’t included in this list, we won’t be discussing them here.
Is There Really More Than One Million Asians In Texas?
There are actually two million Asians living in Texas, according to the 2010 U.S. Census.
That’s right — two million Asians live in Texas. And most of them are Chinese.
Texas is home to over 1.5 million Chinese immigrants, making China the largest Asian country outside Asia. The second largest group of Asian immigrants in Texas are Filipinos.
And the third largest immigrant population in Texas is Vietnamese.
But where did these Asians come from? According to the 2000 census, only 2% of Texans were born overseas. So who brought these Asians to Texas?
Well, many came here illegally during the 1980s and 1990s when the number of illegal immigration was at its peak. But some came legally through family reunification programs.
Today, the majority of Asians in Texas are legal residents. They’re either naturalized citizens or green card holders.
So why does this matter? Well, because Asians tend to vote Democratic.
According to the Pew Research Center, Asian voters are more liberal than white voters. This means that Democrats are more likely to win elections in states with large numbers of Asian voters.
So if you’re running for office, you should be aware that Asian voters are becoming increasingly important in American politics.
