Craigslist removed personals because they were not profitable. They had ads selling cars, houses, etcand they didn’t generate enough revenue to pay for the cost of running them.
They also weren’t generating enough traffic to justify spending money on adwords.
So Craigslist decided to cut back on the number of categories and just focus on one category: jobs.
This decision was based on the fact that they could increase the amount of visitors per month and therefore make more money.
It’s important to note that Craigslist still offers free classifieds, which include items such as furniture, electronics, vehicles, real estate, services, etc..
Personals were removed because they didn’t work
Craigslist was a great site for finding jobs, apartments, cars, and dates. But after years of trying to improve its user experience, Craigslist decided to kill off Personals.
They found that most users weren’t looking for long term relationships, just casual encounters. So instead of focusing on dating, Craigslist focused on job listings and apartment rentals.
This change in direction made sense, since Craigslist had already been successful at attracting advertisers who wanted to reach local audiences. And now, Craigslist is making millions of dollars every month from those ads.
But there’s no doubt that Craigslist missed out on a huge opportunity when it killed off Personals. The site still offers plenty of ways to find short-term partners, but it doesn’t offer any place to meet long-term lovers.

They weren’t profitable
Craigslist removed personals because they were not profitable. They had too many listings and too many ads per listing. The site was losing money.
This is exactly what happened to eBay when they tried to sell items directly through their website. They lost money every month. So Craigslist took a lesson from eBay and decided to only allow free classifieds.
If you’re looking to make money with a blogging platform, consider focusing on building relationships rather than making sales. This means writing great content that helps others succeed. Then, offer your expertise to help them achieve their goals.
When you build relationships, you create trust and credibility. People will be willing to pay you for your services. And once you establish yourself as an expert in your field, you’ll attract clients who need your help.
And they were too hard to police
Craigslist removed personals because they were too hard to enforce. They didn’t want to spend resources policing every single ad posted on their site. Instead, they decided to just ban them altogether.

This decision was made after several years of complaints from users who said that some ads were offensive or inappropriate. The company had no interest in policing its own content. So instead, they banned certain types of ads entirely.
If you’re looking for ways to make money online, consider advertising on Craigslist. But be careful. There are many scams out there. Make sure you find reputable advertisers who pay upfront fees rather than taking advantage of unsuspecting sellers.
Also, be wary of any advertiser who asks you to post free ads for him. He may not actually be paying you at all. And he certainly won’t pay you until you’ve sold his product.
Finally, be aware that Craigslist does not allow adult services ads. This includes prostitution, escorts, strip clubs, massage parlors, etc. These kinds of ads are illegal in most states, and Craigslist doesn’t want to risk getting involved.
Conclusion
Craigslist has been removing their personals section for years now, and it’s no secret why. But what does this mean for those who still use the site?
