Gay Village in Montreal
Montreal is home to a vibrant LGBT community. The Gay Village is located in downtown Montreal, just off St. Catherine Street between Peel and Ste. Catherine Streets.
The area was once known as Little Italy because many Italian immigrants settled there. Today, the neighborhood is filled with restaurants, bars, shops, art galleries, bookstores, and cafes.

History of Gay Village in Montreal
Gay Village was founded in 1981 when the city council decided to create a special area where gays and lesbians would be able to live together. The idea was to give them a place to socialize and meet others who shared similar interests.
At first, the area was just a small group of houses near McGill University. But over time, it grew to include many different types of businesses and services. Today, there are hundreds of restaurants, bars, shops, art galleries, bookstores, coffeehouses, clothing stores, hair salons, gyms, spas, massage parlors, and more.
Gay Village is now home to thousands of residents, making it one of the largest LGBT communities in North America.
